Jewish Lawmaker Wins in Tennessee after Racist Campaign

Jewish Tennessee Congressman won an overwhelming victory Thursday over his black Democratic opponent whose campaign included an ad juxtaposing photos of the legislator with a hooded Ku Klux Klan member. The KKK is an extreme anti-black and anti-Jewish group.

The incumbent, Steve Cohen, is the first white Congressman in Memphis in 30 years. Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama condemned the ad, saying that "these incendiary and personal attacks have no place in our politics."

His opponent in the Democratic primaries, attorney Nikki Tinker, said that the 60-percent black district should be represented by a white person. Congressman Cohen won 79 percent of the vote.
