Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani said Tuesday that "Israel has become politically dead after its humiliating defeat" in the Second Lebanon War.

The Islamic Republic News Agency reported Larijani's remarks, which came in a meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Fawzi Salloukh, who was visiting Iran.

"Courage and resistance of the Lebanese people have been well supported by regional states and the Islamic world," Larijani told Salloukh, adding that Lebanon can now "say the last word."
