Defense Minister Ehud Barak (Labor), speaking now from the Nahariya Cemetery, declared:”We are burying a fighter of the IDF…our dear Udi…I as a former commander and Minister of Defense, salute you.”
Barak promised IDF soldiers who walk into battle that, if they were ever captured by the enemy, then “Israel, the government, the IDF would take every possible step to bring you home.” He promised the families of the still missing soldiers that efforts continue, and specifically spoke to the family of captive IAF navigator Ron Arad, stating that “the Arad case is not closed.”
Barak noted that Warrant Officer Ehud Goldwasser joins more than 1300 sons and daughters of Israel who have fallen to protect and defend the State of Israel from its enemies to the north in Lebanon.
