Citizens' Rights Group: Wiretaps Should Be Investigated (IsraelNN.com) The Israel Policy Center (IPC) came out Sunday in favor of a probe into the wiretaps in the case of Chaim Ramon, and voiced disagreement with another citizen's rights group, Ometz, which opposed such a probe. Dr. Yitzhak Klein, Director of the IPC, said that "the system’s treatment of Ramon was unforgivable and apparently in violation of the law." Regarding Ometz's position, Klein stated: "According to news reports 'Ometz' sent the Prime Minister a letter demanding that the investigation be stopped, since it implied that the malefactors were investigating those charged with upholding the law. IPC disagrees: Whenever there is concrete evidence, as in this case, that law enforcement authorities deliberately violated citizens’ rights, that violation must be investigated and the wrongdoers punished, no matter who their victim is." ![]() Sign up to receive the Daily Israel Report by email (Free) © IsraelNN Syndications - This article may not be republished freely.
