(IsraelNN.com) Lithuania's Appeal Court on Friday decided not to send an 87-year-old man to jail for crimes committed during the Nazi era.

Algimantas Mykolas Dailide was found guilty in March 2006 of persecuting Jews during the Nazi occupation of Lithuania during World War II. He currently lives in Germany. But the court also ruled that Dailide's health did not permit him to serve a prison sentence and that he posed no threat to society.

During World War II Dailide was a member of the Lithuanian security police from 1941-44. He arrested Jews who escaped from Vilnius ghetto.
