El Al airlines is offering lower fares for expatriate Israelis returning home to the Jewish state.

The returning immigrants will be allotted an extra piece of baggage and be charged 15 percent less for the tickets. They will also be granted the best seats within their class aboard the plane. Israelis coming from the US get 23 kilograms; those elsewhere 35.

The program is part of the Ministry of Absorption's efforts in honor of the state's 60th anniversary to encourage Israelis living abroad to come back to the promised land.

Ministry of Immigrant Absorption director general Erez Halfon told Globes business news that 3,000 Israelis have already returned under the program this year and that 8,000 people have registered. The ministry expects 12,000 more to take advantage of the incentives to return.
