(IsraelNN.com) Taxi drivers and delivery personnel announced Tuesday that they will block Israel's major traffic routes in ten days to protest skyrocketing fuel prices and taxes.

The decision was made unanimously by the various unions and organizations in the sector. "All the taxi drivers' money is going toward fuel," a statement said. "Taxi owners are replacing large, roomy, and safe cars with small, cheap cars to save gas, but it isn't helping."

The protest will focus on the government's refusal to abolish the excise tax on diesel, Globes business news reports. The Ministry of Finance has a rebate mechanism for transportation and haulage businesses based on the number of passengers carried, but the organizations claim that the excise is an aggressive tax.

Taxi fares rose by 7.28 percent Tuesday after an agreement between the Finance and Transportation Ministries.
