A United States judge declared a mistrial on Wednesday in the case of Naveed Haq, who is accused of murdering one woman and wounding five others in a shooting at a Seattle Jewish community center in 2006. Haq claims to be not guilty by reason of insanity.
The attack was allegedly motivated by Haq’s Muslim faith and a strong hatred of Israel. The shooting left some victims with permanent handicaps.
A mistrial was declared when the jury was found to be deadlocked after several days of deliberations. Prosecutors said Haq will face another trial on charges of murder and attempted murder.
