Knesset Member Yuval Steinitz (Likud) charged Tuesday morning that everything Prime Minister Ehud Olmert does, including the rumored deal with Hizbullah, is suspected of being a political spin to take away attention from the ongoing criminal probe against him. He declared that the suspicions make it impossible for Prime Minister Olmert to function properly and that he should suspend himself.
The Likud MK told Voice of Israel government radio that he is not directly accusing the Prime Minister of politically timing attempts to bring home kidnapped IDF soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev. However, he said that everything Prime Minister Olmert does is suspect following last week's announcement of indirect talks with Syria. The statement was made two days before American businessman Morris Talansky testified against Prime Minister Olmert.
MK Steinitz also advised against the government's releasing terrorists for the return of dead bodies. "There is serious suspicion that they [Goldwasser and Regev] are not alive," he said.
