Parents Demand Return of Personal Aides (IsraelNN.com) Dozens of parents to handicapped children, handicapped adults and other supporters demonstrated outside the Tel Aviv home of Education Minister Yuli Tamir on Sunday. The protestors called on Tamir to return personal aides to 136 schoolchildren who suffer from various physical and mental disabilities. The children’s personal aides were replaced with classroom aides earlier in the year. Parents argue that the classroom aides are unable to provide sufficient assistance, leaving the children in danger of suffering physical harm. Many of the children have already suffered injuries, they said. Education Ministry officials said the decision to replace personal assistants with classroom aides was meant to help the children by ensuring that multiple staff members would understand their unique needs. The ministry is studying the topic and will reach its conclusions in the near future, they said. ![]() © A7 Syndications - This article may not be republished freely.
