Eight Israelis will be brought before the Ramle Magistrate's Court Sunday afternoon for extension of their remand following their arrest earlier in the day. The eight were rounded up earlier in the day in a sting operation in southern Israel that included the arrest of an employee at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor, as well as a worker at the National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi).
The suspects are to be charged with smuggling in dozens of illegal foreign workers to be hired as caregivers for senior citizens and disabled individuals as well as cheating them out of their money. The four-month-long investigation allegedly produced information that implicates the Ministry worker with issuing work permits for the foreigners, and the NII worker with authorizing the patients to employ them.
