Lebanon Clashes Kill 10, Civil War Looms

(IsraelNN.com) Lebanon faces a renewal of civilian strife after the second day of violence between anti-Syrian elements and the pro-Syrian alliance that includes Hizbullah. At least 10 people died and 20 others were wounded Thursday in clashes in Beirut. Fighting also took place in the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon.

The coalition government, ruled by anti-Syrian parties, earlier this week charged Hizbullah with spying on them, setting up surveillance systems at the international airport and establishing its own telephone system in pro-Hizbullah suburbs of Beirut. It also fired the security director of the airport after charging him with helping the terrorist organization. Hizbullah accused the government of declaring an undeclared war, and it paralyzed downtown Beirut with a massive protest that turned violent.

Hizbullah terrorists and rival forces exchanged rifle fire and rocket-propelled grenades while police guarded government buildings. Hizbullah supporters torched dozens of cars and stores.
