Israel: We Stopped Spying on U.S. in 1985

The Israeli Foreign Ministry gave its first official statement Wednesday on the arrest of Ben-Ami Kadish, on suspicion that he spied for Israel. "These are events from the early 1980s," Ministry Spokesman Aryeh Mekel said. "For over 20 years we have been fastidious about acting in accordance with Prime Ministerial instructions not to engage in any such activity in the United States."

The spokesman's official statement said that Israel would not specifically comment on the Kadish case and added: "U.S. – Israeli relations have always been based on true friendship and identity of values and interests."
