U.S. Jewish Web Site Charges Prayer Day Too Exclusive

The JewsonFirst web site has launched a campaign charging that the annual National Prayer Day is a front for the Christian right. The annual day officially encourages prayer by all faiths, but the web site charged that the National Prayer Day Task Force tries to "foster unity within the Christian church [and] publicize and preserve America's Christian heritage."

It says the prayer day has been "hijacked" to exclude Jews, Muslims and Catholics. The site also calls on state governors to refrain from issuing proclamations endorsing the day. The task force site emphasizes the role of the church in the United States, saying it "has flourished in spite of tremendous opposition."
