United Nations troops put up a barbed wire fence along the border between Lebanon and Israel on Thursday. The fence was erected in the village of Ghajar, which straddles the border, with most of the town on the Israeli side. The IDF and the Lebanese army agreed to the positioning of the fence.
UN troops said the fence was meant to prevent infiltrations and drug smuggling in the area. Ghajar has been a frequent site of drug smuggling from Lebanon to Israel. IDF soldiers fired on two drug smugglers in the area several weeks ago, killing one.
