Damascus: Arab League Initiative Re-Authorized

Arab foreign ministers meeting in Damascus on Thursday decided to re-endorse the 2002 Saudi Peace Plan.  Earlier in the day Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem had accused Israel of failing to commit to the peace process, and had warned that Arab nations could decide to rescind the 2002 initiative in response.

The 2002 initiative calls on Israel to give all territory regained in the Six Day War to the Palestinian Authority, including the Old City and Temple Mount, to end counterterrorist operations, and to grant Israeli citizenship to millions of foreign Arabs.  If Israel fulfills those conditions, Arab countries say they will agree to normalize relations.
