The Water Authority is planning to restrict the amount of water for households, but no limits have been suggested for farmers and industries. Water Authority spokesman Uri Shor said, "The situation is bad; it is very bad. There is an acute water shortage in the country." The new sanctions will prohibit watering lawns during the day and will order a halt to creating new gardens.
Less than average rain fell throughout the country for the fourth straight year this season, leaving the underground aquifers in the worse shape they have been for a decade and the Kinneret at the lowest level in 46 years.
