The new US Congressional Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman is a Jew, as was his predecessor and four of the chairmen of the seven subcommittees.

US Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA), formerly the committee’s deputy chairman, officially took the reins Tuesday after a unanimous vote. Berman was unopposed for the position.

Berman has been serving as acting chairman following the death of Hungarian-born Tom Lantos, the first Holocaust survivor ever to serve in the US Congress, who also represented a district in California.
