Medvedev Wins Russian Elections

Dmitry Medvedev won Sunday’s presidential elections in Russia, officials announced early on Monday.  Medvedev was chosen as a candidate by former president Vladamir Putin.

Medvedev received approximately 70 percent of the votes, easily defeating Communist Party challenger Gennady Zyuganov.  Putin congratulated Medvedev on his victory on Monday, and told supporters “This victory is a promise that the successful path we’ve chosen for the past eight years will continue.”
