A female tourist from the United States was found alive near a flooded riverbed on Monday afternoon. The woman had been seen entering the Ein Gedi nature reserve with her boyfriend, who was later found dead following a flash flood. Rescue workers began a massive search for the woman, and expressed fear that she may have been killed in the flood as well.
Nature authorities have warned that rains on Monday and later in the week could lead to flash flooding in the Negev and Judean desert, even in areas with no rainfall. Tourists and hikers are warned to coordinate all trips in the area with nature services personnel.
