Former Defense Minister Amir Peretz took advantage of the Winograd Report to justify the decisions he made during the 2006 Second Lebanon War.
“The decision to go to war was right,” said Peretz, who lost the leadership of the Labor Party to Ehud Barak in last year’s primary elections, effectively knocking him out of the minister’s seat.
The findings of the Winograd Commission, tasked with investigating the government’s management of the war, were released Wednesday evening. The report had strong criticism for the IDF but committee members pulled their punches when it came to censuring the political leadership.
