Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton won 53 percent of the Jewish vote in the state's primary election Tuesday, according to exit polls. She defeated Sen. Barack Obama and John Edwards, who since has quit the race. Jews accounted for nine percent of the votes in the Democratic primaries although they make up only four percent of Florida's population.
Most Jews in the Republican party were backing former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, who formerly was the front-runner in the national polls but lost heavily in the Florida ballot. He has announced he is dropping out of the race and throwing his support behind Sen. John McCain, who won the Florida primaries.
