Report Says Battle of Bint Jbeil Uncoordinated

(IsraelNN.com) The Winograd Commission's report on the Second Lebanon War said that the battle of Bint Jbeil "was not preceded by serious and thorough preparation."

Some of the division's commanders were not acquainted with the territory, the report stated. The lack of planning, and the haste in going to battle, affected the troops' ability to carry out their missions. "We determine that there was no divisional battle," the commission reported. "Not all of the forces allotted to the battle were used. There was no mutual assistance, no covering fire from tanks, artillery and the air force to assist the ground forces. Every force fought on its own limited front," it added.

The commission noted that the battle of Bint Jbeil was intended to be the first meaningful confrontation between IDF ground forces and Hizbullah, but was in practice a series of skirmishes on the outskirts of the southern Lebanese town.
