Finance Minister Ronnie Bar-On has aroused intense anger among American buyers of Israel bonds because of his absence from an annual conference on behalf of the bonds, a major source of income and moral support for the country. Israeli prime ministers often appear at the annual conference. Finance ministers usually attend, but the last one to do was Binyamin (Bibi) Netanyahu. His successor was Ehud Olmert, who also did not attend.
"The finance minister's decision to skip the event demonstrates Israel's attitude towards our organization as something to be taken for granted and that doesn’t need fostering," one American investor told Globes business news agency.
