Rabbi Snubs Naples Mayor Who Compared Israel to Nazis

Naples, Italy Chief Rabbi Pierpaolo Pinhas Punturello has refused to meet Mayor Rosa Russo Jervolino on International Holocaust Memorial Day because of remarks the mayor made comparing Israel to Nazis. The Italian news agency AKI released a letter from the rabbi, who stated that among other reasons for his refusal, "As usual, the mayor's invitation was late."

Rabbi Punturello added that Mayor Jervolino last October told an Israeli-Arab delegation that the Israeli presence in Judea, Samaria and Gaza is comparable to the Nazi occupation. Fabrizio Gallichi, advisor to the Union of Italian Jewish Communities added, "We have never heard a single word of solidarity for the victims of the missiles from Gaza or Lebanon that were killing, and are killing, victims and renewing terror."
