Warnings have been posted for near-gale force winds of up to 100 kilometers an hour (62 miles an hour) and even higher along the coastal areas. Sandstorms are expected in the south, and heavy snow is falling at this hour on the Hermon.
Rain in the north will taper off temporarily Monday night, resume towards the morning and reach the central area of the country by Tuesday afternoon, followed by snow at night. The snow will accumulate in most areas above 500 meters, and snow mixed with rain may fall in lower parts of the country.
The storm will continue on Wednesday, bringing precipitation to the central Negev and possibly to Eilat. Snow will fall in the lower hills, including Tiberias, and may reach the northern coast. The rain and snow will end on Thursday, followed by very cold temperatures at night. The thermometer will begin to rise slightly on Friday, with occasional rain in the north at night and on the Sabbath. Temperatures will return to normal under clear skies on Sunday.
