Jerusalem Hotels Expect Boom Season

Hoteliers in Jerusalem are preparing for a sharp increase in occupancy towards Israel's 60th anniversary on Independence Day. The Jerusalem Hotels Association, citing relative calm concerning security, predicts that the number of tourist overnight stays will increase by 40 percent. The occupancy rate last year was 62 percent.

Many hotels already are fully booked for April and May, and some reservations are being taken for 2009. If the expectations materialize, the hotels will be able to reverse a trend of years of low occupancy rates.
