The Russian government sent its sixth delivery of nuclear fuel rods to Iran, the second shipment this week, according to the official IRNA agency.
The fuel, which will be used to power the Russian-built Bushehr nuclear facility, arrived Thursday morning. According to IRNA, 66 tons of the total 82 tons needed for initial operation of the light-water plant are now in place.
Israel continues to maintain that Iranian nuclear facilities are being used to develop weapons of mass destruction, rather to produce fuel for peaceful domestic purposes, as the Islamic Republic claims. Iran has refused to halt its uranium enrichment programs despite increased sanctions by the United Nations Security Council and the levying of further sanctions has been blocked by Russia as well as China.
