Manhattan Market Ends Up Looking Boarish

Balducci's, a gourmet food market on 14th street in Manhattan, was sheepish Tuesday evening, after being alerted that their ad, offering hams for sale as "Delicious for Hanukkah," would not be deemed kosher by Jewish patrons – pork products are forbidden as food to Jews in the Torah.

Manhattan novelist Nancy Kay Shapiro, who spotted the faux pas as she walked past the store, decided to post pictures of the ad, which she found humorous, on her blog rather than reporting the mistake to the store owners.

By the time she decided to alert the store to its error on Tuesday night, the signs had already been removed. The Balducci's manager said the mistake was the fault of a store clerk. The store issued an apology on the company Web site, saying the company would be reviewing its employee training.
