Minister of Strategic Affairs Avigdor Lieberman visited the town of Netiv HaAsarah on Thursday. The town, located a short distance north of Gaza, has suffered from rocket attacks for several years.
Lieberman told residents that “The time has come for the politicians to order the IDF to stop the fire” on the western Negev. He defended his decision to join the government, saying he had been unsure at first “but I understood that even elections wouldn’t change the situation.” Since he has joined the government, Israel has rebuilt its power of deterrence, he said.
Some residents did not accept Lieberman’s explanation, asking “What are you doing in the government?” Many politicians visit the town, one man said, “They said ‘This is insufferable.’ But nothing has been done.”
