Two high school teachers have begun a hunger strike outside of the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem.  The two, 60-year-old Pablo Zaks and 32-year-old Nir Maayan, hope to pressure the government to end the weeks-long Secondary School Teachers Association strike by reaching an agreement with the teachers.

“If only we were Ben Gurion [Airport],” people would listen, Zaks said.  “People don’t understand that education is the state’s future.”  Zaks said he hopes to improve conditions for teachers so that his grandchildren will have good teachers, adding, “With today’s conditions people don’t want to go into education, and I understand them.”
