Interior Minister Meir Sheetrit (Kadima) said Tuesday that “lost tribes” claiming to be Jewish should no longer be granted citizenship. “Don’t go finding me any lost tribes, because I won’t let them in anymore,” he said in a speech to the Jewish Agency Board of Governors.
Sheetrit said that Israel has “enough problems” without allowing foreign would-be converts into the country. “Let them go to America,” he said. He called on Israel to focus on immigrant absorption for those already in the country, saying that immigrants’ lives are “miserable.”
