University, High School Negotiations in Progress

The government and high school and university teachers have agreed to talk with each other, but gaps between the two sides remain large. High school teachers Monday resumed negotiations following a High Court order that government leaders try to solve the strike. Teachers' representatives met with the Finance and Education ministries Monday without results but agreed to resume talks on Tuesday and conduct marathon negotiations.

University officials and the Finance Ministry agreed to sit down on Tuesday, the first time they will have talked since lecturers struck last week and later were joined by the universities' staff.
