Livni In China, Urges Strict Sanctions against Iran

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, on a tour of China, told leading researchers and media analysts on Monday that strict sanctions are needed against Iran. "The Iranian regime is a dangerous regime that openly talks of its vision of wiping a state off the map and of imposing its radical, extreme ideology on the world," she warned.

China is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and in the past has pressured to weaken American-sponsored sanctions against Iran, which is building a nuclear reactor. The Foreign Minister noted that China plays a key role in business and technology and must help keep Iran from obtaining knowledge that could have a domino effect that would threaten the world.
