President Shimon Peres's speech at the memorial service for Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin Wednesday afternoon concentrated on politics and mentioned in passing the qualities of the former Prime Minister, who was assassinated 12 years ago.
"Most of the public supports the ways of Yitzchak Rabin," said the President. "We remain a strong people...that will not drop from the direction...of peace, even it it means suffering." Rabin backed the Oslo Accords for creating a "Palestinian entity," which he told the Knesset "is less than a state." His policies also included declarations that Jerusalem will always be united and that the status of the capital is not a subject for negotiations.
