Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is in Europe for three days of talks with European officials. He is to meet Monday with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and on Tuesday with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
The two subjects heading his agenda are negotiations with the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the Iranian nuclear threat. Prime Minister Olmert is trying to fight increased international pressure on Israel to accept PA demands for a timetable to carry out concessions and determine the status of Jerusalem despite growing opposition in the government. Eastern Jerusalem Arabs have said they oppose losing Israeli sovereignty because they would lose massive child support payments.
