Olmert Rice & Abbas Agree: No Breakthrough in Annapolis

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Sunday echoed sentiments expressed by the U.S. and Mideastern leaders last week that it was unlikely any progress will be made at the summit expected to take place in Annapolis sometime in the next two months.

Olmert told reporters “the meeting will not be a historic breakthrough, but it will serve as an umbrella for diplomatic moves.”

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice made a similar announcement last week after four days in the region meeting separately with Prime Minister Olmert, Palestinian Authority Chairman and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas, (Abu Mazen) and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
