MK Gilad Erdan (Likud) has created a proposed law according to which the court system, and not the Interior Ministry, would be authorized to revoke citizenship.  Erdan’s proposal passed an initial hearing in the Knesset earlier this week.

Erdan has also proposed that participation in terrorist activities be considered sufficient cause for a court to revoke citizenship.  Erdan explained that some Israeli citizens had assisted in attacks against Israel during the Oslo War and the Second Lebanon War, and said, “It makes no sense that a person should be a citizen in a country that he’s trying to destroy.”
