Ma'ariv daily newspaper, one of Israel's three top daily papers, has officially announced its choices to replace outgoing editor-in-chief Amnon Dankner. The new editors-in-chief will be Ruti Yovel and Doron Gal'ezer, who will work as a team. The newspaper's board of directors informed the stock market of the decision Sunday.
Yovel is currently chief editor of Channel 2's Friday evening newscast. Gal'ezer edits the investigative program "Uvda" ("Fact" in Hebrew) on the same channel. Both worked together in the past at Jerusalem's "Kol Ha'ir" Friday newspaper.
Ma'ariv adopted a conservative-centrist angle during Dankner's years as editor and regularly attacked the "Rule of Law Gang," as Israel's ultra-leftist judicial "elite" has come to be known. Yovel and Gal'ezer's views are considered to be far to the left of Israel's political center.
