Netivot Mayor Yechiel Zohar confirmed in a broadcast interview on IDF Radio Sunday that his city is equipped with the Color Red rocket alert system -- but maintained there is no need to activate it.
In the interview, Mayor Zohar acknowledged that Kassam rockets have succeeded in reaching the city in the past as well but insisted the “occasional attacks” did not merit activating the missile alert system.
The mayor’s remarks followed a Grad-type Katyusha rocket attack on the city earlier in the day. The long-range missile exploded in the Netivot cemetery and injured no one. Netivot is located 11 kilometers from Gaza.
