Tourists from abroad booked 5.6 million nights in Israeli hotels between January and August 2007, according to the Hotel Association, which said that the number marks an 8% rise compared to the same months in 2006.
The total nights booked, including bookings by Israelis, was 13.8 million: a 2% rise compared to last year. Israelis booked 8.2 million nights, a decline of 2% compared to 2006.
The room occupancy rate in August was 77%, a 22% rise compared to August 2006 and 8% higher than August 2005. Tel Aviv had the highest occupancy rate (91%). Also high on the list, with 80% or more occupancy, were Herzliya, Eilat and kibbutzim.
