French President Warns U.N. of Nuclear Iran

French President Nicolas Sarkozy warned members in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly if Iran succeeds in completing its nuclear development program, the entire world will be in danger.

“There will be no peace in the world if the international community falters in the face of nuclear arms proliferation,” he said, adding that Iran’s claim that it is working only on nuclear energy for domestic purposes is justified, but may not be the entire story.

The U.S. and Israel continue to maintain that Iran is building a nuclear weapon of mass destruction, a claim Sarkozy has said he takes seriously. “If we allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, we will incur an unacceptable risk to stability in the region and in the world,” he said.
