Blair Worried Power Cuts in Gaza Will Halt His Work

Middle East Quartet envoy Tony Blair has expressed concern that any moves by Israel to cut power in the Gaza region could destroy his aim to rebuild the Palestinian Authority (PA) economy. Several Israeli officials have raised the possibility of halting the flow of power if Gaza terrorists continue to aim rockets at Israel. Previous attacks have come dangerously close to the southern Ashkelon electric generating station that provides electricity to much of southern Israel and a large part of Gaza.

The Middle East Quartet issued a statement calling "for the continued provision of essential services" to Gaza. The Quartet is composed of the United Nations, the United States, the European Union (EU) and Russia.
