Christians Worried over Rabbis' Boycott of Sukkot Event

Evangelical Christians who traditionally have supported an Israeli presence in Judea and Samaria are worried over recent rabbinic calls to boycott the major Christian event in Jerusalem during the Sukkot holiday. More than 6,000 Christians from almost 100 countries are expected to visit, following an Old Testament prophecy that all nations will make a pilgrimage to the holy city in the Messianic era.

The rabbis have charged that many of the Christian groups are missionaries who use the holiday to try to convert Jews. However, National Union Knesset Member Benny Elon said that the annual event has taken place in Jerusalem for 27 years with the understanding that missionary work, which is illegal, will not be carried out.
