Homosexuals Ousted from Inheritance Laws

Homosexuals may be excluded from eligibility to receive inheritances from their deceased partners which is normally granted to people in common law marriages, under a bill proposed by Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann.

The draft was a change from a bill approved last month by the Ministerial Committee on Legislation, and came after Friedmann met with Shas Minister Meshulam Nahari, according to Haaretz.

The draft of the inheritance measure, as written by Friedmann, applies to “a man and a woman who lead a family life in a joint household.”  A first reading of the bill will be presented to the Knesset plenum in November.
