French PM: World Must Stop Iran

In his first major foreign policy address, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Monday that the world powers must ensure that the fundamentalist regime of Iran stop its nuclear program. He said a nuclear-armed Iran was unacceptable and that the major powers must continue their policy of increasing sanctions against Tehran.

If the world did not act, Sarkozy hinted military action might be necessary. "This initiative is the only one that can enable us to escape an alternative that I say is catastrophic: the Iranian bomb or the bombing of Iran," he said, adding that it was the worst crisis currently facing the world.
