A rare interview with Syria-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, broadcast Monday morning by CNN, revealed little news and mostly featured reporters' fears that Israel might attack his hideout at any moment. CNN said the interview was three years in the making but "why he agreed to talk to CNN at this moment remains a mystery."

Mashaal, whom Israel tried to poison to death 10 years ago, insisted that Hamas has given Israel medical information on kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit and is treating him "in a humanitarian way that is in line with the Palestinians' morals.

"Israel is...destroying the interests of [the] international community and for this I believe that the Americans should change their policy and to knock [on] the right door," he added.
