Knesset to Discuss Controversial Education Minister

Knesset members from across the political spectrum have requested the Knesset hold a special session to discuss the recent moves of Israel’s controversial Education Minister – Yuli Tamir. The far leftwing MK, who is a founding member of the radical Peace Now movement, has been slammed for politicizing the Education Ministry.  “There is a massive majority against Tamir’s post-Zionist agenda which she is pushing forward without public backing,” said Likud faction head, Gideon Sa’ar.

Tamir announced this week that she would take funds from National Service girls teaching Jewish education and give them to Arabs. She also recently provoked fury when she said she would permit Arab schools to depict Israeli Independence Day as a day of mourning.
