Official J'lem Plan: 950,000 Residents by 2020

A new Jerusalem Regional Outline Plan is now operational, after the National Planning and Building Commission appeals committee removed all obstacles to its implementation. The new plan, which replaces the plan from 1977, predicts that Jerusalem will have 950,000 residents by 2020.

According to Globes, the National Planning and Building Commission approved the plan for deposit in April and recommended a series of supplementary measures for strengthening Jerusalem. These included cancelling the Safdie Plan for the western approaches to the city and replacing it with land zoned for residences within the municipal boundaries; suspension of construction of the western and southern ring road until further notice; the designation of Har Eitan as a national park and the establishment of clear planning criteria for expansion of communities within the Jerusalem District.
