(IsraelNN.com) Interior Ministry Meir Sheetrit announced Thursday that he would postpone local elections scheduled to take place on November 4th.  November 4th is the date that former Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin was assassinated, he explained.

The government officially marks anniversaries on the Hebrew calendar, and memorial events for Rabin are held on the eleventh of Cheshvan, which does not fall out on November 4th this year.  Analysts said that Sheetrit’s decision could set a legal precedent that would lead to regular double anniversaries, where each event would be commemorated on both the Hebrew and Gregorian dates.
